Zillow has recently announced a partnership with Engrain, a provider of interactive maps. The partnership will allow prospective renters on Zillow's portal to get a better understanding of what's available in an apartment.

Users can see the floor on which the apartment is located and see details of exactly what the view from windows and balconies is like. The interactive maps also enable renters to click on available units to book a tour or apply, similar to purchasing concert tickets online.

The technology, called Unit Map, is currently being used on over 3,600 apartment building pages on Zillow and can be accessed by renters through the Zillow website or mobile app.

"Regardless of how detailed the apartment description is or how beautiful the listing photos are, a renter can't get a full grasp of the surroundings until they take the time to do an in-person tour, until now," says Michael Sherman, vice president of Zillow Rentals."

Zillow has been incorporating more digital tools to meet renter demands, including features like 3D Home tours and building information such as Walk Score and Bike Score. Additionally, Zillow recently announced automated tour scheduling for apartment-seeking renters, making it easier to book an in-person tour.

Sherman said, "We are investing in integrations and products to make the apartment hunt easier and help people get into their next home more seamlessly. Renters want and deserve as much information as possible during their search, and by the time they're ready for an in-person tour or to apply, the property managers will know they're working with a renter who's serious about their move."
