Zillow Collaborates With OpenAI for 'Seamless' Home Search on ChatGPT

October 7, 2025

Zillow is one of a handful of companies involved in OpenAI's recent release of new integrations that plug controls for other apps directly into ChatGPT.

In a press release, Zillow states that the integration is 'the only real estate app in ChatGPT,' enabling users to ask ChatGPT questions and receive meaningful answers during the home search process.

According to the release, ChatGPT will automatically surface the Zillow App in users' chats and use relevant context to deliver real listings from Zillow's portal, including mirroring the design of Zillow inside the ChatGPT interface.

Interestingly, home results are sorted the same way they are on Zillow's portal, whereby the top result on a Zillow search would be reflected in the ChatGPT dialogue.

ChatGPT will show photos, maps and house prices, and guide users towards Zillow's platform directly to undergo next steps such as scheduling tours, connecting with an agent or exploring financing.

Josh Weisberg, head of AI at Zillow, said:

“People are already using AI to make everyday decisions. By bringing Zillow into ChatGPT, we’re making it just as natural to ask about homes — and simple to take action on Zillow. This builds on two decades of using AI and technology to make moving easier.

Zillow previously launched a ChatGPT 'plugin' in 2023, which, along with that of rentals marketplace Zumper, was swiftly taken down owing to ethical housing concerns.

Addressing potential ethical issues in search results this time around, Zillow said it has "worked with OpenAI to build multiple protections into the Zillow App in ChatGPT... to reduce the risk of bias or discrimination."

The new app is live for users logged in and based in the United States on ChatGPT's Free, Plus and Pro plans. Other companies to receive integrations via ChatGPT include the music streaming service Spotify and design programs Canva and Figma.

News of Zillow's collaboration with OpenAI comes less than a month after Realtor.com's parent company, News Corp, said it was in high-level talks with the AI giant to build a product that could "enable Realtor to become number one in the U.S".
