According to MC Mutual, a mutual collaboration entity with Spain's Social Security, a total of 330 professionals from their workforce have opted to telework - an option presented and implemented at the start of 2019 on January 2nd.

Following a pilot test that involved 110 participants and lasted a year in duration, MC Mutual has offered the possibility of working from home up to two days a week to nearly a quarter of its workforce (24%). The initiative has seen a popular acceptance rate thus far, with 17% of the total workforce opting to telework.

“By our own nature of mutual labor, the commitment to flexibility and family reconciliation is part of our corporate culture. We are very clear that telecommuting is a win-win for business and workers, because facilitating a better balance between personal and professional life makes employees more committed to the organization, and this translates into an improvement in service to users.”

Andreu Lacambra, Director, People, CSR, Communication, MC Mutual

According to Laura Rosillo, HR consultant, trainer and digital coach:

“In many Spanish organizations, labor relations continue to focus on control and presentism; on the contrary, the project of MC Mutual is based on the confidence in its professionals.”

Mobile technology makes it possible to dilute the border between work and personal life.

“The work at a distance makes it possible for professionals to integrate these two concepts into a whole and have more availability to train, develop new personal projects and take care of themselves and theirs,” Rosillo adds.

MC Mutual employees who want to qualify for telecommuting must have successfully completed at least six months within the company and have the necessary functions (internet, etc.) that would allow them to work virtually. Therefore, the remote working program is not available for health care teams.

The implementation of teleworking comes in parallel to the digitalization plan that is being carried out by MC Mutual, externally by improving the relationship with its associated companies and protected population, and internally with the introduction of technological tools to work in a way that is more collaborative, among other measures.
