Sudarshan Balachandran has been appointed as Carousell's new marketing director, according to Marketing-Interactive.
Balachandran brings more than 12 years of marketing experience to the role, having worked at marketing agencies and technology firms across the Asia-Pacific region. Before joining Carousell, he was director of marketing (APAC) for verticals at FoodPanda and before that, he was instrumental in launching Agoda's global brand campaign, which featured "Agojis" as brand mascots.
In his new position, Balachandran will oversee Carousell's marketing strategy in all six markets: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Taiwan. He will report to Bryan Teo, the company's chief operating officer. Balachandran will play a vital role in strengthening Carousell's brand identity and driving product innovation.
Carousell Group is a general classifieds player that also operates several specialist real estate verticals including the recently spun off Vietnamese site Nha Tot. The company was in merger talks with Carousell last year which broke down after Carousell's failed SPAC listing.
