This week's Product Roundup starts with the unsurprising news that a major portal has launched a ChatGPT app...
Realtor.com launched an app within ChatGPT this week, allowing users to explore affordability, neighbourhoods and housing options through natural language prompts, before being directed to Realtor.com to connect with agents, schedule tours and access full listings.
The company said the product is designed to simplify what it describes as the 'pre-search' phase, when consumers are forming initial decisions around budget, location and whether to rent or buy.
The app includes features aimed at guiding early-stage users, including conversational affordability estimates, neighbourhood comparison tools and prompts tailored to first-time buyers.
MLSs and real estate professionals remain central to the experience, with Realtor.com confirming that listing data is not used for model training and remains protected.
Damian Eales, CEO at Realtor.com, said:
“For 30 years, Realtor.com has led every major technology shift in how Americans search for homes, while staying true to our mission of connecting them with the professionals who will help them. Today, AI represents the next transformational opportunity to simplify the home journey and deliver greater clarity and confidence to consumers. The combined strengths of Realtor.com, REA Group and News Corp give us a unique competitive advantage, uniting world-class tech and talent, global insights and deep industry partnerships. With OpenAI, we will meet home buyers wherever they are, keeping the real estate professional central to the experience.”
Realtor.com said its strategy is to capture users earlier in the search journey, supported by survey data indicating that 82% of Americans are already using AI for real estate insights, while agents remain the most trusted source of information.
Mickey Neuberger, Chief Consumer & Marketing Officer at Realtor.com, said:
“Our commitment is to make Realtor.com omnipresent wherever consumers are having conversations about real estate. Our new app in ChatGPT raises the bar, especially for first-time home buyers, putting powerful guidance and clarity in front of consumers from the moment they begin pre-searching. We brought real estate listings to the internet. Now we’re bringing them to AI. As the most trusted site among real estate professionals, we see this as a win for buyers, agents and the broader industry.”
Anna Marie Castiglioni, Head of Realtor.com Next, said:
“The Realtor.com app in ChatGPT is designed to keep agents and MLSs at the center of the real estate transaction, while raising the visibility of their listings. Realtor.com does not receive listing data through an IDX feed; instead, our unique, direct relationships with MLSs ensure we operate in the best interests of home buyers and sellers, partnering with MLSs that uphold accuracy and transparency across the industry. By only showing a preview of property images and details, the app guides consumers to Realtor.com to connect with a local expert, schedule a tour, and explore our full suite of advanced search tools.”

Jitty, the AI-powered property search platform backed by Google and REA Group, has rolled out conversational search to complement its user experience.
Commenting on LinkedIn, Jitty CEO Graham Paterson said:
"When we kicked off this project, I was nervous about being yet another person trying to shoehorn conversational AI into their website. I didn’t really see what value that users would get from a back-and-forth chat. The value is now clear, and truly mindblowing.
"Conversational search isn’t about having a chat, or even writing in natural language. It’s about using words to create an infinitely customisable user interface that can show users many different things. It’s about intelligently working towards an optimal outcome from a basic starting point.
"Property search is not just for finding a home. People use it to choose where to live, how much to save, work out what they can afford, see what their home is worth. People want to know how much a utility room, or beach view would cost them. They want to know the tradeoffs between space and living close to the train station. People often don’t know exactly what they want, and if they do they can’t articulate it in a one-off search. You often need a smart back-and-forth to get to a good outcome."
