UK Portals Leaving Agents Dissatisfied, Says New Research

An online survey of UK estate agents has found that over 25% of agents are dissatisfied with their chosen property portal—and 40% of respondents are spending over £2,000 per month on portal subscriptions.

In research published by UK challenger portal Jangle, just 3% of agent respondents gave OnTheMarket a "5 out of 5" for satisfaction, while 28% gave it just 1 out of 5, the lowest score allowed.

Rightmove was a close second, with 27% of respondents giving it a score of 1 out of 5, and 11% giving it a perfect score.

Zoopla users were equally damning: 27.5% of respondents gave it a 1 out of 5,  and 4% gave it a perfect score.

Meanwhile, 36% of respondents subscribe to each of the three main portals, 40% use two, and 24% stick to just one.

Jeremy Rosenblatt, founder at Jangle, said:

"It is clear that the major portals are simply not providing the customer satisfaction levels that they should be achieving.

"In any other industry, companies providing such low satisfaction levels would not last. Imagine what would happen to high street brands or car manufacturers, if their customer satisfaction levels revealed that nearly 30% of their customers were completely dissatisfied."

Jangle is a new challenger that wants to offer UK agents the chance to list properties for free—and utilize API integrations that automatically upload their properties. We previously covered the launch of Jangle in July 2022, with today's survey results the first time we've heard from Jangle since last year's inception.

"Our survey not only confirms the market’s widespread dissatisfaction with the costs charged by the big portals but also reveals the level of overheads being incurred, explaining the appetite of agents and developers for a Zero Portal Spend model," said Rosenblatt.
