Alex Chesterman shows up on highest tax payer list

Zoopla's Founder has been ranked 42nd on a new list of the country's highest tax payers.

All 50 in the Sunday Times’ Tax List, paid over £20 million of UK tax in the financial year 2018 to 2019.

Chesterman, 50, is said to have paid £24.6 million in both income and Capital Gains Tax.

The listing states that he enjoyed a £62 million payday in 2018 from the £2.2 billion sale of ZPG.

Alex Chesterman is a British internet entrepreneur he was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2013 and in 2017 named on Debrett's 500. He is the founder of the property website Zoopla in 2007. Zoopla has now become digital media business ZPG Plc, a FTSE-250 listed company and owns brands which include Zoopla, uSwitchPrimeLocation, Money and Hometrack and employs over 1,000 people in the UK.

Chesterman now heads up car business Cazoo, comes just one place below mobile phones tycoon Sir Charles Dunstone who paid £25.8 million tax, according to the listing.

The Sunday Times asks what that tax bill could pay for, and comes up with the salaries of 1,065 nurses or 22,454 Sim-free iPhone 11 Pro Maxes.
