We'll kick off this week's Product and Services Roundup with some nifty tools coming out of two Russian portals...
The Russian classifieds giant Cian has launched a property search feature which uses a smart augmented reality (AR) camera.
A report from Forbes Russia suggests that hopeful house buyers can point their smartphone at a residential development listing on Cian, and be shown all the available units for that development.
Cian says it is the first tool of its kind in Russia. The AR search remains in beta for now, and the company says the service functions on iOS and Android. Cian is suggested to have invested between RUB 5M-15M (USD 65k-190k) to produce and launch the product.
To activate the service, users must use Cian's app to point their camera at a building on Cian's database, and draw a figure eight in the air with the phone to record the location of the smartphone using GPS.
Cian said:
The user only needs to point the smartphone camera at the desired object, and the smart AR camera will show all currently available ads for rent and sale of apartments in this building. This is a new search process for the market, which will reduce time and increase awareness, which changes the perception of classic real estate search processes.
Forbes confirmed with several competitors, including Domclick and Yandex, that Cian remains the only Russian marketplace operator with this functionality for now. However, the report did go on to say that the new feature does require some improvements. Some older smartphone models do not support the new search, while other limitations include the presence of uneven terrain, while trees can also complicate the AR camera.
Lena Kaplina, CEO at AI startup VIM 2.0, told Forbes:
"For stable operation, it is important to take into account the limitations of devices and the Internet, but even basic solutions are already changing the market."
Russian real estate marketplace DomClick, owned by the national bank Sber, has launched a price comparison calculator for homebuyers to compare the respective costs of buying different homes.
The new tool compares data uploaded via XML feed by developers registered with DomClick. Prospective buyers can use the tool to compare cost options, including mortgage repayments and the conditions of the property.
DomClick quoted Anna Shikh, commercial director of the SSK Group developer:
"Our residential developments already offer clients the option of choosing the finishing, and now they can easily calculate the final cost of purchase and make an informed decision faster."
German horizontal classifieds platform Kleinanzeigen has introduced three new features for subscribers to its Pro solution: updated contact forms, improved management tools for followers, and a new ad template tool.
The company says the new features will improve efficiency and control for users, including fewer repeat inquiries from would-be buyers, and managing who can 'follow' their profile.
Interestingly, Kleinanzeigen's new ad template tool will allow Pro users to turn their listings into templates for future use, allowing repeatable and replicable formatting in the future. Details such as price, description and images can all be transferred into templates.
Rightmove is piloting a new Extension Explorer feature as part of its broader effort to integrate renovation intelligence into its platform.
Extension Explorer provides localised data, including estimated construction costs, area-specific planning approval rates, and examples of similar extended properties nearby.
The feature is currently available on individual property listings and within Rightmove's 'Sold Prices' section.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to encourage engagement with agents by equipping users with preliminary renovation data. The tool is underpinned by a partnership with Resi, a UK-based home extension specialist with a proprietary dataset from over 9,000 completed projects.
Tarah Lourens, Chief Technology and Operations Officer at Rightmove, said:
"This experiment is our latest step in testing various tools and features for the millions of people using Rightmove at different stages of their home-moving journey.
"We’ll be exploring how useful prospective buyers and current home-owners find this information and see if it can help our agent partners with data to help highlight fixer upper and investment opportunities to their customers."
Alex Depledge, CEO at Resi, said:
"With insights from over 9,000 extension projects delivered across the country over many years, Resi brings unmatched renovation data and design expertise. Together we help answer the big questions: what can I build, how much will it cost, and will it add value, right from the property listing itself."
Rightmove said the feature remains in an experimental phase for now, with no formal launch timeline or performance metrics disclosed.
The tool builds on the previously launched Renovation Calculator to help homeowners and buyers assess the potential of a property directly from the listing.
